Web9 Oct 2007 · With both methods, we calculate the solute field and the Kirkendall marker velocity and displacement fields. In the sharp interface treatment, the velocity field is generally discontinuous at the interphase boundary, but can be integrated to obtain a displacement field that is continuous everywhere. WebThe manifestation of the Kirkendall effect in multiphase diffusion couples of the Ti-Ni and Co-Si systems is discussed in terms of the velocity of the Kirkendall frame of reference … WebThe Kirkendall effect appears due to the unbalanced diffusion fluxes causing the vacancy flux. There are several numerical methods that allow to predict the position of Kirkendall plane after the diffusion couple annealing. In this work for the first time the entropy density distribution is used to estimate the trajectory of the Kirkendall plane.
WebSkibiński Wojciech, mgr inż.. WIMiC-kfmp Katedra Fizykochemii i Modelowania Procesów. Wydział Inżynierii Materiałowej i Ceramiki The Kirkendall effect is the motion of the interface between two metals that occurs as a consequence of the difference in diffusion rates of the metal atoms. The effect can be observed for example by placing insoluble markers at the interface between a pure metal and an alloy containing that metal, and heating to a temperature where atomic diffusion is reasonable for the given timescale; the boundary will move relative to the markers.
