WebIt's not that painful, but annoying. I've use different things on it, but routinely just use gauze and alcohol now with some tape. It seems to work the best. Some days when's it's really swollen it looks like there's a hole. When it gets bad my earlobe swells, becoming hard and painful, but never drains. Eventually returning to nornal.
